This blog has been silent or I should say, I've been silent, for a very long time. In the beginning, this blog was to highlight and share those things I hold dear as a native Californian. But as time marched forward I couldn't find my inner voice anymore. I thought I was being boring and self indulgent. This little page wasn't adding anything new to the world. So I kept quiet.
For the past several months, I've been mulling over the idea of using this little ole blog as a tool for my family genealogy research. I've seen were this thing called the "Internet" has been great for networking people who didn't know each other but who are kin! One of my favorite blogs Ancestor in Aprons ,has documented how well this technique has worked in getting results.
Yes, the traditional leg work to document or verify sources will need to be done but if this page could help extend my reach a bit further, well why not! Right?
In the same breath, if I can create a bit more interest with my younger relatives, that would be even better! It would very sad, if all this work, ends with me.
Side note: I seem to be the youngest person at some of the workshops, I've attended. Is genealogy a retired persons hobby?
This retooled blog could help me achieve a few of my goals with this family tree thing. One of more important goals is to establish a link to my paternal Irish ancestors (Kavanagh), while my father is still walking this earth. If there was anyway to find any Irish cousins, that would make both my dad & I ecstatic. A life milestone, indeed. But finding any relatives would be fantastic too!
The next few days, the look & feel of this blog will change and possibly a name change. After which, I will make my first posting. I hope that you (my audience of 5 people) will stick around for this little journey of puzzle solving. If anyone out there has ideas or suggestions, please post them. I welcome all help on this journey.
Until next time............
